MASCHERANO OF BARCELONA (BARCA VS MILAN)

The Barca mid fielder says “More than the result, and the happiness for qualifying, we’ve gone back to our origins, and that’s what we should feel the most pleased about.

Let’s hope there are no more setbacks. We have to make sure we stay on this track, regardless of results … We have done things the same way all along, but that series of bad results affected our confidence.

According to goal.com, Javier Mascherano has said that the history of Barcelona has helped the current side's players remain humble.

The Argentine, who arrived at Camp Nou from Liverpool, believes the side's players have a different mentality to those from other teams.

“One thing I have discovered is that in football, the [players from the] biggest sides which have made history are the most humble,”he told reporters.

Mascherano, who arrived at the Blaugrana from Anfield in 2010, also believes his own attitude to the game has improved since relocating to Spain.

"Since I came to Barcelona I've always had the mentality of trying to give the best, offer the team [my best] and often leave the ego aside.”

The team just wasn’t playing the same way

As for the game “scoring after just five minutes gave us the chance to play more calmly and was not good for Milan because they knew there was a long match ahead … We created so much pressure. For each Milan player, there were three for Barça. It’s infectious. If the player beside you creates pressure, then you do too”.

Mascherano explained that he asked to be substituted because he was getting cramp, and with the game on a knife-edge, he wanted the team to be at full strength.

Mascherano’s first international appearance came in 2001. September of that year saw him play on the Argentina team that finished fourth in the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship.

In 2007 Mascherano played 14 matches for his national side Argentina and scored 2 goals in total.

When he played for liverpool, he scored only 2 goals in a total of 94 matches he played.
